Weighed Down

I was watching the commonwealth games on TV with my brother.Every day we would imitate the actions of the participants.One day, when they were telecasting the weightlifting event, we decided to use the bolster to imitate the weightlifters .My brother lifted the cushion, but slipped and fell.In the mishap, he broke two of his front teeth.After this incident, we learned never to try out what is shown on TV.

In A Shell

On a trip to the beach side with my family, I went to one of the beaches there.i was playing with my cousins and collecting shells, when I noticed a big shell in the distance.When I picked it up, I was astonished by the sudden vibration from the shell.The next moment a crab slowly crawled out of it.Immediately, I threw the shell down and ran to my dad, who laughed on hearing about my encounter with the creepy crab.

The 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany was fraught with deep political emotions.Adolf Hitler wanted to use these games to prove his racial supremacy theory.As part of the contingent from the United States, Jesse Owens, an Afro-American athlete had shown prodigal talent by breaking three world records and tying one in the Big Ten Meet in Michigan.The long jump event in the 1936 Berlin games gave the sporting world one of the best friendships.Owens who was in trouble because he had fouled in his first two attempts, was advised by German long jumper Luz Long to jump a few inches before the usual take off spot.He bagged the gold with a jump measuring 8.13m, a world record that lasted for 25 years.Jesse Owens not only won the gold, he also won his friendship with Luz Long won the heart of the Germans.

Morning Jog

I had just returned from my morning walk and sat on the sofa when my mom asked me to take some eatables to the neighbor's house.A friend was to call me around that time, so I wanted to be back in time to attend the call.I started running to the neighbor's place with the food bag in hand.Suddenly, I noticed a dog chasing me.I ran faster, screaming for help.Some people who had gathered at a stall shooed the dog away and saved me.

The Mark

This incident happened when I had gone to my aunt's house.I was an extremely inquisitive and curious child.Every closed jar, box, bottle or toy, had to be opened and checked out.One day, I discovered a bottle lying on the ground in a dingy corner of the house.The bottle had a rubber cork and the mouth of the bottle was wet with the liquid it contained.I got interested.In a flash of a second, I reached for the bottle, opened it and smelt it.It had a strong smell and then I felt a stinging sensation on the tip of my nose.The bottle contained acid and had burnt the tip of my nose due to contact with it.Even now, after many years, I still have the burnt mark on the tip of my nose.

Spooky Night

One night my cousins and I were watching a horror movie on the television.My cousins knew that I was terrified of ghosts and so they were deliberately trying to scare me.After some time, I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.Some water from the filter had leaked to the floor.As a result, I slipped and fell against a container of flour.Soon a blanket of flour covered me from head to foot.Needing help to straighten out the mess.I rushed out to my cousins.But they thought I was a ghost and ran screaming out of the house.After some time, my uncle came in and saw me.He helped me wash off the flour and asked me what had happened.When I related the incident he burst out laughing.

Snake In My Bed.

One night, I was alone at home for my parents and sister had gone out for a party.It was nearly midnight and I had been watching TV when the lights went off.I decided I might as well go to bed, and groped my way in the dark to my bedroom.Sometime later something woke me up.I was startled to see a black snake in my bed.Luckily the lights came on just then.I started laughing when I realized that the 'snake' was simply a big coil of rope!.I related this incident to my family when they came home and they too had a good laugh over it.
